General Control for Hot Flashes

Simple measures can help to alleviate hot flashes. Avoid overheating your home or workplace, and dress in layers that make it easy to add or remove clothing as needed. Natural fibers such as silk and linen help to maintain a comfortable body temperature by allowing perspiration to evaporate quickly. Keep a small paper or bamboo fan handy for quick cooling during a hot flash. Natural-fiber bedding will help to keep you comfortable during the night. Use pure cotton or linen sheets, and instead of one heavy blanket or comforter, sleep with thin layers of cotton or wool blankets and a lightweight down comforter that can be added or removed as needed.

Emotional stress is often a trigger for hot flashes. Practices such as deep rhythmical breathing and meditation create a calm internal environment that keeps your body and emotions in balance. You can also relieve emotional and physical tension with regular exercise such as a daily half-hour brisk walk. Avoid walking in the hot sun, though, because excessive heat can bring on a hot flash. During hot weather, walk in the early morning or evening. Other types of exercise that have a calming and cooling effect are swimming, tai chi, and yoga. The long, slow stretches of yoga and the gentle, flowing movements of tai chi are excellent for creating a deep sense of peace and relaxation and are wonderful practices for bringing the body and mind into harmony.

Eating foods rich in phytoestrogens, especially soy foods, has been shown to decrease the intensity of hot flashes by helping to balance estrogen levels. Try to eat one or two servings of soy foods such as tofu, tempeh, and soy milk each day. Dietary supplements that help to relieve hot flashes include vitamin E and bioflavonoids. In clinical studies, vitamin E has been shown to reduce the incidence of hot flashes. Take 400 to 800 I.U.S of natural vitamin E in the form of d-alpha tocopherol daily. If you suffer from hypertension or diabetes, check with your doctor before taking large amounts of vitamin E. Bioflavonoids are found abundantly in citrus fruits, especially in the white inner rind and pulp. Bioflavonoids have phytoestrogenic activity and have been shown to markedly reduce the incidence of hot flashes. Eat one or two servings of fresh citrus fruits daily, including as much of the white inner peel as possible. In addition, take supplemental bioflavonoids combined with vitamin C, which helps to strengthen adrenal function. Take 1,000 units of vitamin C combined with bioflavonoids three times a day.

Hawthorne (Crataegus oxycantha) is an excellent herb for any type of circulatory problem. It improves circulation and helps to relieve the fluid retention that may accompany varicose veins. The deep-blue-red hawthorne berries and flowers are also rich sources of anthocyanidins, the compounds that help to strengthen blood vessels. Hawthorne is a gentle, safe herb and is most effective when used over a long period of time. Natural Prostate Cures with Correcting Bad Posture and Exercise

Natural Prostate Cures with Correcting Bad Posture and exercise

Correcting Bad Posture for Prostate Problems:
Correcting bad posture is of utmost importance in treating prostate disorders. One of the best posture-correcting methods is to lie flat on the floor at the end of the day. If gradually straightens out the back, pushes the neck into its normal position and takes the weight off the feet so that they may relax. Lie in this position for about 10 minutes till the lower part of the back begins to ache ,due to the strain placed on the pelvic muscles. This strain can be reduced by drawing the feet up to the buttocks.. This position also takes the strain off the abdominal muscles and allows the contents of the abdomen to move more freely than in the standing position. This movement can be increased by deep breathing, and the diaphragm will then tend to pull the abdominal organs up towards the chest. Breathing in this way releases the tension on the back, lifts the pelvic organs and restores the proper angle to the ribs.

The patient should now be in a fairly relaxed state with the back resting comfortably on the floor, the neck straight and the breathing easy and full. The next position is to raise the pelvic part of the body as high as possible, and to put under it a hard cushion that will hold it as comfortably high as possible, Rhythemic breathing may be continued so as to stimulate the movements of the inner organs. The patient may also try consciously to relax and contract the abdominal muscles. This position is of great value in taking the weight and strain off the bladder and the prostate gland, and should be held for about 10 minutes or even longer, if possible. This position maybe usefully varied by taking thecushion or support from under the buttocks and then raising the pelvis up and down slowly as an exercise.

Now assume the first position of lying completely flat on the back with the legs extended flat on the floor. Bend the knees, and bring them up as high as possible towards the head. Place the hands on the outside of the knees, and then pull the knees as high as they will come.

Natural Prostate Remedies with Exercises:

Kicking an Imaginary Object Exercise
Kicking an imaginary object in this position is a very good exercise in prostate disorder. The procedure is to release the hands from the knees, and shoot out both legs, as though kicking an imaginary object suspended in the air. Do not do this too vigorously at first because it is apt to strain the abdominal muscles; but after a while a certain control will be developed over the movement, and it may be done with a good deal of speed. It is a very useful exercise, as it tends to shake up the contents of the pelvis and the Jerk of the feet transmits an upward force through that region. The good effect of this movement is to activate a sluggish bowel. It should be repeated several times, according to the strength and energy of the patient.

Yoga for Migraines

Stretching, breathing, bending—none of these activities sound good to a migraineur in the throes of a headache, but they should.

Yoga is a physical and psychological discipline originating in India. Most modern yoga practiced in the West is hatha yoga, which is primarily concerned with asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation. Yoga is an excellent way to relieve stress, a common migraine trigger, and tone the body. Being active in a regular, low impact fitness program helps many migraineurs reduce the frequency and severity of their headaches. This makes yoga a good fit for migraineurs who want both less headaches and less pain medication in their lives.

As with any fitness plan, migraineurs need to consult their doctor before beginning a yoga regimen. Home fitness videos and books are great resources for beginners, but should not be the only resources a migraineur uses when starting yoga. Many poses may actually increase the likelihood of headaches. Migraineurs who are seriously planning to take up yoga as a complement to their migraine treatment plan should make an appointment with a skilled yoga instructor to discuss their condition and what poses are appropriate. If they have a book, they should bring it to the appointment to review with the instructor.

For migraineurs who are thinking about taking up yoga to help ease their symptoms, but are not ready to commit to spending money on it there are some great free resources on the web relating specifically to yoga for migraines.

Reflexology for Migraines

Say the word migraine and most migraineurs will reflexively cringe in remembered pain, their last headache still vivid in their memory. Say the word reflexology to them and you will likely get a blank stare. A recent (2006) study in Denmark indicates that migraineurs who get more familiar with reflexology are less likely to cringe reflexively at the mention of migraines.

What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a massage technique based on the idea that every part of the human body has a corresponding point on the sole of the foot. Reflexologists believe that massage and stimulation of these points on the foot can relieve tension, pain, and stress in the corresponding parts of the body.

In the Danish study involved a mix of migraineurs and people experiencing chronic tension headaches. Herbal Cures and Remedies for Multiple Sclerosis

Although not recognized in standard allopathic medicine, the use of herbal supplements can be very useful in treating Multiple Sclerosis.

Fish oil is a natural anti-inflammatory. In addition to treating inflammation caused by multiple sclerosis, fish oil also may have the ability to assist in myelin repair. It is often recommended by alternative medicine practitioners that people with multiple sclerosis take between 3 and 9 grams of fish oil daily, for optimal myelin repair.

Some studies have shown that soya lecithin combined with fish oil may further help myelin repair itself after an MS attack.

It has been shown that the body needs adequate calcium intake in order to optimize its ability to transmit electrical signals. In addition, some studies have shown that high intake of vitamin D may slow the progression of multiple sclerosis. Therefore, it is recommended that people with MS take a combination of calcium and vitamin D daily.

Magnesium and calcium work together to assist electrical signals traveling in the body. Taken before bed, magnesium is also very helpful in treating restless legs syndrome, or spasticity at night. People with MS can take up to 1500 mg of magnesium per day. Too much magnesium can cause loose stools or other bowel problems.

Many people with multiple sclerosis suffer from severe fatigue. A good B-complex sublingual liquid can help treat this. Be sure the preparation you choose has a high concentration of vitamin B-12.

For depression associated with multiple sclerosis, many people use St. John's Wort.

Sometimes, multiple sclerosis can make you feel as if you're thinking slower than normal or that your brain is in a fog. Ginseng and/or Ginko Biloba may help treat this.

Of course, speak to your doctor or alternative medicine practitioner before starting this or any other supplement regimen. Some vitamins, minerals, or supplements may interact with standard multiple sclerosis treatments.

General Tips to Multiple Sclerosis

For people with multiple sclerosis, it is very important not to let themselves get overheated. When the body overheats, there is usually an increase of symptoms. Medically, this is called a pseudo exacerbation. Typically this causes mild or occasional symptoms to get worse. The most common MS symptoms effected are dizziness, speech difficulties, loss of balance, fatigue, and clarity of thinking. However, it is important to remember that any symptom the person has experienced can be effected.

Cooling vests can be purchased for minimal cost. Some of these vests are designed to be soaked in cool water and put in the freezer, others have inserts that you keep in the freezer until needed, much like ice packs used for keeping lunches cool. For those on a limited income, the National MS Society can sometimes help with purchase.

Wearing a large bath sheet around your neck will do the same thing. Just keep the bath sheet or towel in the freezer until you need it.

Whenever possible, stay out of the direct sun and away from hot, stuffy places. During summer, ask a friend or family member to run errands for you. You might consider hiring a local teenager to do these for you, as well. If you must go out in the heat, drink plenty of water, wear a wide brimmed hat to keep the direct sun off, and always seek shade. Wear a cooling vest or cold towel around your neck. For outdoor activities, invest in a personal, handheld fan, they spray cool water on you and can help lower body temperature.

Listen to your body. If you find yourself feeling unwell, feeling unusually tired, or having an increase in symptoms, stop what you are doing and go cool off. Find an air-conditioned store, or just sit in your car with the air running until you feel better.

There are several diets that can be used when treating Autism. They range from eating Gluten free products to eliminating dairy from the diet. Some Autistic children have a sensitivity to certain ingredients in food. These ingredients will contribute to behavioral problems, or meltdowns when eaten.

Children with Autism can be very sensitive to noises, tastes, textures, and smells. Sensory integration therapy helps the child to deal with whatever it is causing them problems. It can also be used to calm a child with something like a certain smell or texture.

Speech Therapy
Speech therapy is a must for any child with Autism. Children with Autism usually misuse words. They often have a hard time understanding the meanings of words like few or many. Speech therapists can help teach gestures and communication skills to nonverbal children. They can help the child to learn how to read other people's body language.

Play Therapy
Play therapy can be very useful when treating an Autistic child. Play therapy allows the child to relax and focus on things they enjoy. A therapist working with an autistic child will play on the floor with the child. They will give the child various toys and see if the child takes a liking to one of them. If the child begins to play the therapist will then try to interact with the child. After the therapist has formed a relationship with the child they might bring another child into play therapy. This can be a great way to get the Autistic child to play with other kids. Usually a therapist does the play therapy, however the parent can do the therapy after they have learned the techniques used.

These are just a few of the many alternative treatments available for Autism. Medication does not have to be a first resort. These can also be combined with medication for a better treatment plan.
